J.J. Abrahms Is My Hero

I say that.. and it is for a number of reasons. He created shows like Alias and Fringe, and one of my favorite favorites..LOST
. (I love that show) ..And as I am sure that many of you have heard.. (maybe from me) he re-made, re-imagined, and revived the Star Trek storyline and created a really cool movie that debut in U.S theaters last night at midnight. Of course, I was there... at 1o:45 p.m. to ensure I had my seat for the midnight show.

Ok, so I am a big fan of Star Trek, the Original Series,The Next Generation, and even Enterprise (which got canceled after just 4 years :( I think as a kid I got hooked watching the Original Series late at night. It was that cheesy, cool sci-fi vibe that it had.. fantastic and silly and ridiculous in it's ways. I really liked it! haha. I was not even sure I liked The Next Generation when it originally cam out, because I felt like it was such a departure from what the show was originally set out to do.. which simply was, to be a silly space opera. Occasionally there was an episode that related views about political issues that were current at the time of it's airing. Or social issues that they would write into the show now and then. For the most part it was just silliness.

Then came the movies. The first one.. I still don't know how to feel about. The second one.. and amongst the most famous in the series - The Wrath of Khan- and my personal favorite -Star Trek IV - The Voyage Home. After that.. I don't know what happened. They did nothing to enhanced or make more enjoyable, the storyline. There were like, 7 more movies.. but they were all kind of boring. They were just kind of there, and I went to seem them out of loyalty... but most were pretty dull.

No comes the 11th movie in the series.. from visionary director and producer - J.J. Abrams. The man has kept many people interested in television in this booming era of "reality t.v." and game shows. He created within genres defined as established favorites and fleshed-out a fantasy Universe that needed some new life. He, among others, has kept me interested in seeing feature films, IN THE THEATER (aside from Cloverfield) ..as opposed to not dealing with the, sometimes, hassle of going to the theater.

On to my review of Star Trek XI.

I LOVED IT SO MUCH. I loved it so much. I. Loved. It. S.o. Much. It was fun, had an attractive cast that played the story and characters so well.. and i t just looked really cool. As a fan, I can tell you that it was a really awesome movie to experience in the theater and it made the kid in me grin from ear to ear. It did not disappoint me in any way. It was so fresh and crisp looking. The computer graphics and effect shots were so clean and realistic without being so completely over-the top.. aside from where they needed to be ;) It followed certain "sci-fi rules" and kept it original while sticking to the core and essence of what the original 1950's series was about. In short, It was great.

I know that many people will dispute the exuberance I may be displaying with this review of the film, but as a fan, I felt like it was finally due - a great Trek film... and here it was, I am going to see it in the theater again... and maybe again. It started my weekend off right! Hope you all have a great one! Hope to hear from you!
