Daily Life Update

Bicycle tiresI

It's been a week or so since I have updated. I have just been working a lot while the season is still going.. as it is about to end here in a couple of weeks. Then it is about 6 months or so of non-convention traffic into Las Vegas. We still make a good living during that time, however, it is not the same as during the convention season. I know I have mentoned that before.. but this year is especially troubling to think about, since it is the first Summer since our Global economic meltdown. Lot's of foreign travelers come to Vegas during the Summer, but as most of you know, or have heard from me.. they are not the ones that spend their money in high-end restauraunts .. and when they do.. they don't tip well. I know, I know.. its an American thing, but nonetheless.. it is part of the economy here. So that is that, and I am sure you will hear all about it when I get into siutations involving work-life this Summer.

On another note, I have written over at con·tin·u·um that I get around alot on my bicycle. It's efficient, and gets me where I want to go just as fast as a car sometimes. The price for the fuel is right :) ..and I get a bit ofcardio in while riding here and there. I ride mostly to work and to run my daily errands, and I really enjoy it most of the time. When you factor in the parking garages on theLas Vegas Strip, traffic, and extremely long traffic signals.. my bike does well to get me where I want to go - fairly fast.

There have been some instances, where the drivers, and visiting drivers in Las Vegas really seem to go out of their way to not acknowledge a person on his or her bike. I was once told that, "it's not if you get hit while on a bike, but when"... I think about that every time I am on the streets. Some of you have commented in the past about getting around Vegas on a bike, and how dangerous it sounds. Some of you have even tried it and don't recommend it to people..lol. I hear you loud and clear.. but it is such a great way to get around and get some exercise in too! I have had some run-ins with people just refusing to acknowledge a bike lane, or cutting me off IN the bike lane.. or once I even got ulled over by a Police Officer, while ON my bicycle.. and all he did was ceck my i.d. claiming that I looked like I was getting into mischief. I was on my bike! I was covered in sweat on the way back from the gym, and I was headed home. Mischief indeed. blah.

Today I had to change a flat tire for the first time in forever. I was on the other side of town by the University... and felt the tire getting a bit wobbly. I checked and it was flat as could be. Luckily, and strangely, I was near a Target. They had what I needed, I just wasn't sure how to go about getting it done. I texted a buddy, and his response.. was "I haven't messed with a bike in over a decade.." Which is pretty much how I felt too. So I decided to check youtube. Sure enough there it was. See the issue was a flat tire on the rear wheel. As my Schwinn only had a quick release on the front tire, I was gonna need some tools. So into Target I went.

I got a "self-sealing" inner tube to help prevent future flat tires, some sealant, just in case.. and a wrench that I bought for .$99. Sweet! Now to figure it out. Checked the video on you tube, via my G1 Phone.. and voila. A scruffy video presenter, 15 minutes, and 2 very greasy hands later ...the bike was ready for the road! Good stuff. It was much easier than I thought. I am pretty thankful for the modern technology that allowed that situation to happen fast. Now I feel like I can add that to the ol' memory banks if it ever comes up again. :)

I haven't been up to much more lately. Just like I said, working alot and making it happen. I am gonna take a couple of days off here soon, since we are going to be slow.. maybe go home to California for a bit. I'll tell you all about it eventually! Until the next post.. see you then! Hope to hear from you all!
