We did a short tour of a few different places on the Strip here in Las Vegas. We actually decided to check out a buffet for dinner early Saturday. The idea was to fill our stomachs with good food and be ready for a night out on the town. We visited "Cravings" @ The Mirage Hotel. It's a good buffet, not my favorite (sorry to say I have favorites in the buffet category,) but it was quality nonetheless. They have a station setup there where there is a little Asian guy that does won-ton soup from 'scratch' and has roast duck and shrimp buns and things of that sort. It always makes me laugh a little when I have visited his little area.. it's marked with a sign that says "FISHMONGER". When you ask him for something, he does the bare minimum.. unless you are a person of Asian heritage. No kidding! I am not making it up.
I tested it.. I waited for a little Asian lady to go up and ask for roast duck , and he gave her some and a bowl of won ton soup that he whipped up nice and quick. I went and asked, and he gave me this little piece of duck that seemed to be mostly bones! hahah.. I asked for another piece and he seemed to grumble a bit as he gave it to me. Was I taking from his personal stash!? It is what it is I suppose. Funny Stuff. Good food anyway. They have a gelato station in the dessert area that is really pretty quality gelato from what I can tell. I myself have not been to Italy, but one of my buddies that was with me has, and claims it is some of the better stuff he has eaten. I opted for a sugar-free piece if pie, boring I know.. but I had to slow down a bit. I was all too happy about the 'Chinese' Style food they were serving and had 2 big plates of it. The dessert had to be the sacrifice.
After all that we checked out Onda, also at the Mirage hotel. Onda is a little upscale wine bar and restaurant. They have a 5 p.m. wine tasting on Fridays that they call "Rush Hour Wine". I have enjoyed this wine tasting a few times in the past.. so I was quite familiar and the door hostess always remembers me and says hello. This time they were serving Ferrari-Carano wines. I am not a huge fan of Merlot, which is what the red was, or really anything of that particular winery.. so I opted to just chill while the others did the tasting. Instead I bellied up to the bar and had a nice glass of Chilean Cabernet from Casa LaPostalle.. one of my favorites.
We headed over to Planet Hollywood to check out the sights there, and ended up getting massages from the little Asian ladies that give them in the "Miracle Mile Shops". I have done this before, and it is always weird.. but it gets the blood flowing, and for $20 bucks they made me feel like a new guy! In fact, I think they were pretty happy that when me and my buddies signed up and started our massages, they got an influx of more people signing up. They seemed to last about 30 minutes rather than the 20 we signed up for. Meaning they hooked us up a bit since they were getting some attention from us being there... when previously they had nothing going on. I think it just comes down to... everyone always wants to do it - but they don't want to be the only ones. I mean it is a massage in the middle of a busy mall! It was excellent though! I will be visiting Amy again, she is the Korean lady that did my massage. Really got me feeling loose and ready to party! Amy found a kink in my shoulder that I have from being a waiter..and she worked it out!
The rest of the evening was more of a blur.. but we headed out to do some drinking, looked for some music.. and did a bit of lady-chasing.. haha. Well, girls anyway. The term lady doesn't seem to always apply to some of the females that are partying on the Strip. Scantily clad and shaking it up.. it's what the nightlife can sometimes be about! It's not a judgment, just a fact :)
Sunday night found me hungover and in charge of a 40th birthday party with 25 people that flew in from the East Coast... I was serving the party and boy was I feeling the events from the previous night. I just don't have the 'Spring Chicken' kind of rebound from drinking that maybe I once had. I'll tell you what tho.. I had one of those "5-Hour Energy" shots that I usually don't seem to benefit from, and it really made a difference. It is loaded with B-12 vitamin and some enzymes..and seemed to really bring me back to life. I may have looked a bit worn out, but I was feeling petty good!
Now I am back to working my 6 days a week before the season slows down temporarily for a few months. I am not off again until Friday and I have 3 big functions to work this week, along with regular dining. Should be a profitable and quality work-week. Disneyland is later this month and maybe a "Bigfoot" expedition.. hahah.. don't ask.. I'm sure I will tell you all about it anyway.
How was your weekend all? I know SS had a Birthday down in OZ, and So did Lora's little one over at Suburbia Las Vegas.. Angie got herself a spankin' new Digital SLR, which I am looking forward to seeing some photos from! What kind of mischief did you all get into? I hope they were good times! Looking forward to hearing from you all!
