The thing is, I am not much a fan of radio. Its much the same way that I don't care for television that much.. I really don't like to listen to radio. I feel like a lot of what comes out of mainstream radio is usually drivel. Now, I am not necessarily against drivel... because again, my taste in music may be interpreted in many different ways.. but I just don't' need the slop that gets sometimes turned out on the radio. There are always commercials for more crap I don't need. So I get my music, along with many things in my life.. through the Internet. Often, I have to go looking for new music, but that is something I enjoy. Sometimes and alot of times, I get suggestions from friends and people that are music fans also. Through websites, or Internet feeds.. or the free tracks offered by itunes or emusic. I am a big fan of music blogs and websites. I frequent pages like :::Arjan Writes:::, "EQ" and MUSIC IS MY KINGS SIZE BED.. They are great resources for finding music that isn't on the mainstream radar, yet. The Yellow Stereo is one of the best pages I visit quite frequently for music information, and indie-style reads about festivals, bands and music in general.
A few times over the years, I have written about my favorite ways to download and stream music from the Internet. Over at con·tin·u·um, I mentioned some of my favorites ways in getting music from the Internet, onto my ipod, and into my headphones :) I have been a big fan of many sites like eMusic, Amazon Mp3, and of course.. itunes.
I have music on my mobile device, always playing when I'm home, and always loaded up on my ipod so I can take it with me when I go somewhere. Just like for many of you, it is easily accessible and becomes part of the soundtrack of my everyday. I can't even sit on the Internet without having music playing. If it's not itunes, then it's samples from artist pages.. or clips of new videos. Mostly itunes when I am at home though.
I am also a fan of sites like Blip.fm, where you can link your favorite songs and even send them out as a Twitter update or Facebook update. (You can read a previous post about that here.) Recently I have downloaded a few of my favorite electro tracks and remixes from Masterbeat.com. (...it sounds kind of dirty, but sometimes the best ones do:) They have music choices that range in price from $.89 to $1.29 .. similar to itunes. One difference from itunes, is that MasterBeat has a lot of remixes and rare track finds that are great to listen to when you are looking for some 'high-energy' music. I have even grabbed some of my favorite KASKADE tracks and Masterbeat.com even had a whole slew of Michael Jackson remixes that I never knew existed. With his passing recently, MJ's music has been all over the airwaves and Internet. You can find a great promotion to try out MasterBeat.com at the top right corner of the page.. the page peel will lead you directly there to check it out with 10 free downloads, or click here to check out the Michael Jackson remixes I mentioned.
What are your favorite ways to get the songs out of your system? :)
If you decide to check out these sites, leave me some feedback on what you think of the services, and if there are any personal favorites you have around the Internet where you get, share and listen to your music. I am always looking for new ideas and choices! Hope to hear from some of you soon. See you one the next post!
